MusicaNova’s mission and vision
MusicaNova is passionate about the role classical music plays in the cultural climate of our communities. We believe bringing the highest quality orchestral music performances and providing high-level musical education to both our professional and young musicians will benefit our society, our community’s quality of life, and the lives of our friends, neighbors, and children for years to come. Our organization is focused on serving the needs of the Northeastern Phoenix metropolitan region with specific emphasis on serving the communities of Scottsdale, Cave Creek, Carefree, Fountain Hills, and northeastern Phoenix. MusicaNova has formed three, linked ensembles to enable us to deliver our vision of classical music in the 21st Century: the MusicaNovaOrchestra (a professional symphony orchestra), the Fine Arts String Orchestra (made up of professional, retired, and volunteer musicians, music teachers, and dedicated amateurs), and the Youth Orchestra Scottsdale (made up of student musicians ranging from 12 to 18 years of age).
The concept of linked ensembles is central because it underscores a key element of MusicaNova’s mission—education. The Youth Orchestra Scottsdale and the Fine Arts String Orchestra are important “feeder groups” not only for MusicaNova but for many other professional music groups in the Valley. The idea is to equip these players with the requisite skills and motivation needed to perform at their highest level.
At the culmination of each season a concert will be given in which both the Youth and String Orchestra members will participate with the Professional Orchestra. In that performance a distinguished soloist of international caliber will perform with the aggregated players.[1] No other Valley organization offers this synergy of encouragement and broadening “real world” experience for aspiring musicians.
Additionally, the concerts given by the MusicaNova Orchestra are unique in Arizona. Through thematic programming, pre-concert talks, additional written materials, contextual information presented from the stage in the course of the concert, and auditorium visual effects, the concerts themselves are explicitly educational in intent. Music Director Warren Cohen is very keen to include both the content of the music and the context for the music at each concert.
MusicaNova’s mission is the outgrowth of a dedicated and motivated group of volunteers including committed residents of our communities, musicians, students, and parents who have partnered with our talented and accomplished Music Director, Warren Cohen.
As a relatively new organization, we are still building membership in our dedicated and participatory board of directors. We are actively seeking community leaders who share a passion for classical music and wish to give back to their communities through service on our board.
